The Environmental Conservation Trust of Uganda (ECOTRUST) is a Ugandan NGO whose goal is to provide long term sustained funding for biodiversity conservation and environmental management. Founded in 1999 in Uganda, ECOTRUST is committed to creating and maintaining cost-effective and efficient mechanisms to improve natural resource management, building resilience to climate change while investing in programs that increase income opportunities for the rural poor.
ECOTRUST is currently seeking applications from very dynamic self – driven professionals to join its team in the position of Programme Manager described below:
ECOTRUST and IUCN are currently facilitating the Development of a National framework for Pro-poor and HRBA integration in the conservation, governance and sustainable management of landscapes. At the national level, a number of lessons have been documented and shared with stakeholders. Also, a pro-poor forum has been established. Among the activities is documentation of pro-poor principles and HRB approaches and strategies for their integration in national planning processes.
In the month of June, 2017; outreaches to offer HIV integrated services to UWA staff in the 2 conservation areas of MECA and MFCA were conducted. 12 outposts in these conservation areas were provided with integrated services, sensitization talks on HIV prevention, testing, care and treatment were held. STI screening, Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC), Maternal and New Born Health (MNH), family planning and Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission (EMTCT) services were also carried out. A total of 170 male and 274 female individuals were sensitized, of which 116 males and 169 females voluntarily underwent HIV testing. Family planning services were offered to 9 women and a total of 7 individuals were registered for VMMC. The activities were also blended with malaria testing and treatment, condom education and distribution and support of BCC agents implementing the stepping stones methodology.

ECOTRUST took part in the 22nd Poverty Environment Partnership (PEP) meeting on the 19th of June, 2017 in New York City. The meeting under the objective "Investing in Natural Capital - for an inclusive green & blue economy to implement the SDGs and Paris Climate Agreement, focused on exploring the diverse types of natural capital investment that are being made across the developing world that have implications for 'zero poverty', 'zero carbon' and 'zero net loss of natural capital'.
The World Environment Day 2017 was celebrated in Uganda on the 5th of June, 2017 under the local theme “CONNECT TO NATURE, APPRECIATE BIODIVERSITY.” The theme established that if we as citizens of Uganda, ventured out into nature, we would fully appreciate her beauty, and acknowledge the dependence we have on the different ecosystem services she provides. The event was celebrated alongside the International Day of Biological Diversity (IDBD), commemorated on May 22nd every year.
