SRJS partners in Uganda have initiated a process of working with the Natural Resources Parliamentary Committee to review the Environment Bill 2017.
The Ministry of Water and Environment in Collaboration with key Partners organized the first ever Uganda Water and Environment Week (UWEWK) – 2018 at the Directorate of Water Resources Management of the Ministry of Water and Environment (DWRM/MWE) in Entebbe from the 17th – 23rd of March 2018 under the theme: “Water and Environment a Catalyst for Achieving Middle Income Status 2020”.
During this quarter, ECOTRUST awarded Grants worth UGX 15 million from its Carbon Community Fund (CCF) to four different community groups.
The official wildlife day, 2018 national celebrations were held on the 3rd of March, 2018 at the Nyakasanga playgrounds in Kasese District, next to the Queen Elizabeth National Park, under the theme “Creating a safe environment for the survival of Uganda’s big cats”.
ECOTRUST hosted Carbon Offsets to Alleviate Poverty (COTAP) to a week-long filming visit of the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) Programme from the 8th – 14th of March, 2018. COTAP has been a long-term organizational partner, purchasing carbon credits generated from the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) Programme and linking buyers not only from the United States but the world over to producers of these credits. COTAP’s mission is to empower individuals and organizations in developed countries to address both climate change and global poverty.
The Uganda national Wetlands Day celebrations were held for the first time in Arua district, West Nile region of Uganda, at the Arua hill grounds under the theme “Urban Wetlands: prized land, not wasteland,” The Guest of Honor was the State Minister of Finance; Gabriel Gadison Ajedra Aridru representing the Right Honorable Prime Minister; Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda.
