ECOTRUST and IUCN are currently facilitating the Development of a National framework for Pro-poor and HRBA integration in the conservation, governance and sustainable management of landscapes. At the national level, a number of lessons have been documented and shared with stakeholders. Also, a pro-poor forum has been established. Among the activities is documentation of pro-poor principles and HRB approaches and strategies for their integration in national planning processes.
In order to operationalize the pro-poor principles and agenda at the lower level in Mt. Elgon Landscape (Mbale and Kapchorwa districts), it was recommended that District natural resource technical teams are also trained in pro-poor principles and agenda. Two training meetings were held in 2015 and monitoring and evaluation framework for each district developed and shared. The one-day meeting is intended to validate, adopt and operationalize the monitoring and evaluation framework.
The main objective is to support the District Natural Resources technical committees with skills for operationalizing the monitoring and evaluation framework and pro-poor principles and agenda within the on-going Local Government Conservation Initiatives and Programs.
ECOTRUST and IUCN are organizing a one-day workshop, planned for mid-August to reorient District Natural Resource Technical Committees on pro-poor REDD+ and HARBA principles and agenda in the Mt Elgon Landscape, Review, validate and adopt the monitoring and evaluation framework and Formulate strategies to operationalize the M&E framework. The meeting will be held at Mt. Elgon Hotel in Mbale.
At the end of the meeting, the District Natural Resource Technical Committees for Mbale and Kapchorwa should be in position to operationalize the monitoring and evaluation framework for pro-poor REDD+ and HRBA with-in the on-going Local Government conservation initiatives and programs.
