The Ministry of Water and Environment in Collaboration with key Partners organized the first ever Uganda Water and Environment Week (UWEWK) – 2018 at the Directorate of Water Resources Management of the Ministry of Water and Environment (DWRM/MWE) in Entebbe from the 17th – 23rd of March 2018 under the theme: “Water and Environment a Catalyst for Achieving Middle Income Status 2020”.
The event brought together key stakeholders in the Water and Environment Sector to discuss issues regarding the contribution of Water and Environment resources to the development of Uganda. The same week also hosted the commemoration of three important International Days I.e. World Forest Day, World Water Day and World Meteorological Day.
Parallel plenary sessions, workshops, trainings and field visits were held on; Integrated water resources management, water and sanitation development, waste water and pollution management, environment and natural resources, sustainable forest management, weather and climate change, ecosystems, stakeholder engagement and sector financing. These were chaired by key stakeholders such as; the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Water and Environment, the Chair of the National Committee of Parliament, the Country Director of WaterAid, Chairman – Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change, and the Director of DWD just to mention a few.
Exhibition booths were set up for stakeholders from private sector, civil society and government.
The event came to a climax with the official launch of the Water Resources Institute by the Prime Minister of Uganda, Right Honorable Prof. Ruhakana Rugunda.
