Tereza, a resident of Bitereko Subcounty in Mitooma District, began her journey with the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) project in 2006. Before joining the program, life was difficult, and money was tight. She remembers a time when she had never even held UGX 100,000 in her hands. That all changed when she joined the TGB project and started receiving carbon payments. |
With her very first payment, Tereza was able to build her first house—something she had only dreamed of before. When she received the second payment, she used it to construct a more permanent home with the help of her children. Over time, and with more effort and determination, she managed to put up an even bigger house. She credits all of this progress to her involvement in the project and the trees she planted back in 2003.
The trees mean more to Tereza than just income. Even when people come to offer money to buy them, she refuses to sell. For her, the trees represent her journey out of hardship. They are a reminder of how far she has come, and she holds on to them with deep emotional attachment. To her, they are a symbol of survival, strength, and success.
Today, Tereza is proud to be a TGB farmer. She is thankful for the opportunities the project has given her and hopes that it continues to grow and help others the way it helped her.
