Restetuta Rwabayambire stands as a trailblazing pioneer in the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) project, a distinction she earned by being the first to raise her hand when ECOTRUST trainers sought those interested in growing trees. Beyond her role as a dedicated farmer, Restetuta is the LC1 Chairperson of her community and a respected church leader.

Initiation into Tree Planting:

In 2003, Restetuta planted her first trees, marking the beginning of a journey that would redefine her life and impact her community. Her proactive approach and leadership within her community set the stage for significant achievements.

Unexpected Windfall and Educational Triumphs:

The pivotal moment in Restetuta’s TGB journey occurred when, in need of funds for her children’s education, she visited the SACCO to collect her expected carbon payment. Anticipating a modest amount, she was stunned to find UGX 680,000 in her account—a far cry from the expected UGX 50,000. This unexpected windfall enabled her to pay school fees for her children, including one bound for college in another district. The subsequent withdrawals to confirm the reality of the funds were met with joy and disbelief by her family.

Education, Degrees, and Family Achievements:

With the financial support from her tree planting efforts, Restetuta successfully sent her children to school, resulting in degrees in Engineering and other diplomas proudly displayed in her household. She further utilized the proceeds from mature tree harvests to fund the college education of her younger children.

Community Impact and International Recognition:

Restetuta’s dedication to tree planting has extended beyond personal gain. She actively encourages her neighbors to embrace tree planting and has become a host to numerous international visitors drawn by the flourishing trees on her land.

Diversification and Entrepreneurship:

With part of her earnings, Restetuta ventured into entrepreneurship by establishing a poultry business. Her forward-thinking approach demonstrates the holistic impact of the TGB project on individual livelihoods and community development.

Continued Commitment and Advocacy:

Grateful for the life-changing impact of the TGB project, Restetuta continues to plant new trees and has established a nursery bed for indigenous trees. Her message to others is clear: “Do the right thing and continue planting trees for a brighter future.”
