Trees Planted

1000

Betty Nsigaireho, from Bitereko Subcounty in Mitooma District, is one of the pioneer farmers in the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) project. Since joining in 2003 and planting 1,000 trees, her life has changed in many positive ways.

She started out by attending TGB training sessions as part of a women’s group. After gaining knowledge from trainings in Bushenyi and Rubirizi, she became a group leader and trainer, encouraging others to join. At first, only a few women were interested, and they had to pool money to buy their first seedlings.

Betty used her carbon payments to pay university tuition for her daughter, who later graduated from Makerere University. This success inspired more people in her community to join the project.

She later expanded her farm to include coffee, bananas, tea, and cattle. The extra income allowed her to buy more land and grow her farming business.

Now, with mature trees ready for harvest, Betty plans to replant and continue the cycle. She remains committed to tree planting and actively encourages others in her community to join the project.

As TGB celebrates 20 years, Betty thanks ECOTRUST for the support and opportunities that have helped her grow and succeed.
