ECOTRUST, working under the ACBA (African Civil Society Organisations for Biodiversity Alliance) is spearheading the Africa Biodiversity Conservation dialogues initiative, leading to the generation of the Africa Position on the Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.  ECOTRUST is also spearheading dialogue between ACBA and China CSOs, International NGOs, Africa Development Bank and Africa Group of Negotiators.

ACBA is an alliance of African CSOs that speak with one voice on issues of sustainable use of nature, contributing to conservation and equitable benefits from nature all around Africa. The Alliance facilitates sharing of lessons, creates opportunities for collaboration and the ability to influence regional, continental, and global policy processes.

On December 3, 2020, the African CSOs Biodiversity Alliance (ACBA) in collaboration with the African Development Bank convened the first joint webinar on ‘Financing Biodiversity in Africa from All Sources’.  The current draft of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework recognizes that all transformative actions will need to be supported by enabling conditions and adequate means – including financial, capacity and technology hence the need to have a dialogue on this key enabling factor- Finance.

The webinar sought to explore how best to scale up and align finance for biodiversity from multiple sources – public and private – domestic and international – in a bid to meet the CBD post-2020 biodiversity objectives. The rich discussions came from a diverse panel offering global, regional, and national perspectives.  Read more about it here.

The next webinar focusing on the meaning of the biodiversity economy is set for February 2021. The recording of the full webinar can be accessed here.
