ECOTRUST Launches TASLL Northern Uganda Project to Drive Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods

ECOTRUST has officially launched the Transformative Approach to Sustainable Landscapes and Livelihoods (TASLL) Northern Uganda project, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). This initiative aims to create an inclusive, climate-resilient landscape across the Agoro-Agu region, spanning Agago, Pader, Lamwo, and Kitgum districts. Through forest conservation, reforestation, nature-based enterprises, and community-driven land management, TASLL seeks to foster sustainable development while enhancing local livelihoods over the next four years.

Darwin Bio-credits Project Inception Workshop

The Inception Workshop for the pilot of the first biocredits scheme in Africa marked a significant step forward in financing biodiversity conservation for Indigenous People and Local Communities. ECOTRUST Staff Complete Gender Action Learning System Methodology Phase 3 Training

ECOTRUST staff and field teams completed the GALS training, a community-led empowerment methodology for gender equality. Facilitated by experts from OXFAM, CEFORD, Poro Poro, Wadelai and ELCs, the 5-day training equipped 30 participants to become certified GALS trainers. The aim is to create gender-equitable and climate-smart landscapes, promoting positive change in communities. GALS is now an integral part of ECOTRUST’s sustainable development approach, empowering staff to champion equality and inclusion.

‘Rooting for a Greener Future’ – The Franciscan Capuchin Green Campaign

The Green Campaign, overseen by the Franciscan Development Committee, aims to promote sustainable practices and shared nature. The committee, consisting of lay Christians and Franciscan Capuchin Order priests, plans to utilize the congregation’s secure land for various tree-growing initiatives. This includes economic tree species, forestry and medicinal trees, fruit trees, and sustainable farming practices. With over 160 acres available in Busunju and additional land across Uganda, the project seeks support to become a center of excellence, inspiring others to follow the Franciscan approach to environmental stewardship.

Every year ECOTRUST holds an Annual Stakeholders’ event as a feedback and accountability mechanism to key partners and stakeholders in the organization’s interventions and aspirations. This year’s event was special because it marked the end of the 2017-2021 ECOTRUST strategic plan and the beginning of a new strategic period 2022-2026. The event was held under the theme “LIVING IN HARMONY WITH NATURE: Building Climate Resilient Communities and Sustainable Landscapes” which is the theme of the new ECOTRUST strategic plan. It recognizes the overall vision post-2020 – Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) framework for the next decade and the new vision that will inspire ECOTRUST operations over the medium term.

Celebrating 15 Years of Trees for Global Benefits

This ECOTRUST 2018 Stakeholders event was a celebration of ECOTRUST’s Trees for Global Benefit Programme, which has for the last 15 years grown into one of the biggest carbon offsetting schemes in the world (under the Plan Vivo standard of certification), linking rural poor small-holder farmers to the financing of the voluntary carbon market.
