ECOTRUST was part of the ever-growing group of organizations that supported the 5th edition of the Uganda Wildlife Marathon that took place on 23rd February at the Uganda Museum. Hundreds of participants from across different institutions turned up for this year’s marathon, aimed at raising funds to educate children of fallen rangers. This was part of a series of activities organized by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in commemoration of the annual United Nations World Wildlife Day, held in Kisoro district (Western region of Uganda) on 3rd March 2020.
The chief runner, Deputy Speaker of Parliament – Hon. Jacob Oulanya, flagged off the various races under categories of 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km. Also, in attendance was the Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities; Col. Tom Butime together with his state minister Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi. The minister conveyed his appreciation to all individuals and companies that took part, noting the importance of country wide engagement and awareness rising on the importance of wildlife conservation.
The event was crowned off with the awarding of the first three winners from the different race categories, each receiving cash prizes. There was also entertainment from popular Ugandan artistes i.e. John Blaq and Spice Diana, cultural and school performances plus an acrobatic show.
ECOTRUST extends her appreciation to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) for another successful event put together for a worthy cause.
