The Inception Workshop for the pilot of the first biocredits scheme in Africa marked a significant step forward in financing biodiversity conservation for Indigenous People and Local Communities. The workshop focused on piloting Biocredit schemes in the Northern Albertine Rift (Uganda) and the Tondwa Game Management Area (Zambia), aiming to generate funds for community-led conservation efforts while combatting poverty and preserving biodiversity.
ECOTRUST staff and field teams completed the GALS training, a community-led empowerment methodology for gender equality. Facilitated by experts from OXFAM, CEFORD, Poro Poro, Wadelai and ELCs, the 5-day training equipped 30 participants to become certified GALS trainers. The aim is to create gender-equitable and climate-smart landscapes, promoting positive change in communities. GALS is now an integral part of ECOTRUST’s sustainable development approach, empowering staff to champion equality and inclusion.
