ECOTRUST Launches TASLL Northern Uganda Project to Drive Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods

ECOTRUST has officially launched the Transformative Approach to Sustainable Landscapes and Livelihoods (TASLL) Northern Uganda project, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). This initiative aims to create an inclusive, climate-resilient landscape across the Agoro-Agu region, spanning Agago, Pader, Lamwo, and Kitgum districts. Through forest conservation, reforestation, nature-based enterprises, and community-driven land management, TASLL seeks to foster sustainable development while enhancing local livelihoods over the next four years.

Nazarius, a 70-year-old farmer from Bunyaruguru Subcounty in Rubirizi District, proudly shares his journey as one of the first farmers to join the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) project. When he started, he was already growing pine trees on part of his land. One day, a team from ECOTRUST came looking for people who were interested in planting indigenous trees through a carbon offset program. The idea caught his attention, and together with a few friends, he decided to give it a try.

Before joining the program, life was difficult, and money was tight. She remembers a time when she had never even held UGX 100,000 in her hands. That all changed when she joined the TGB project and started receiving carbon payments.

Bonny Mukiga, from Bitereko Subcounty in Mitooma District, began her journey as a Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) farmer back in 2003. She was encouraged to join the project by ECOTRUST coordinators and inspired by others who had already experienced its benefits. The idea of planting trees and earning from carbon credits seemed promising, and she was eager to be part of it.
