Reverend Elkad Mujizi serves as the Assistant to the Archdeacon of the Western Ankole Diocese. Daudi Bangirana, during the project’s nascent stage, held the positions of District Health Inspector and Councillor of Biteereko Subcounty in Bushenyi district. Introduced to the upcoming carbon project, he learned that group participation was encouraged, particularly with an emphasis on women’s involvement. Collaborating with Beatrice Ahimbisibwe, then Chairperson of the Bitereko Subcounty women’s group, they drafted a proposal outlining the group’s engagement in the project.

In the heart of the Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve in Rubirizi district, a remarkable transformation unfolds—a story of collaboration, resilience, and conservation. The Ndangara and Nyakiyanja Parishes Tutungukye group (NNTG), guided by ECOTRUST, has turned a history of conflict into a model of sustainable growth. Through reforestation, beekeeping, and partnerships with organizations like ECOTRUST, the NNTG has not only revitalized the forest but also elevated the standards of living for the Ndangara community.

ECOTRUST staff and field teams completed the GALS training, a community-led empowerment methodology for gender equality. Facilitated by experts from OXFAM, CEFORD, Poro Poro, Wadelai and ELCs, the 5-day training equipped 30 participants to become certified GALS trainers. The aim is to create gender-equitable and climate-smart landscapes, promoting positive change in communities. GALS is now an integral part of ECOTRUST’s sustainable development approach, empowering staff to champion equality and inclusion.
ECOTRUST’s annual stakeholder event, was held both physically and online in 2022, under the theme of “Resilience in the Face of Increasing Crisis: Strengthening Partnerships for Climate Resilient Landscapes.” The event highlighted the organization’s conservation partnerships and innovations, recognized smallholder farmers and showcased the success of programs such as the Trees for Global Benefit (TGB) program. Presentations by ECOTRUST staff members showcased various conservation projects across the different landcapes of Uganda.
