Reverend Elkad Mujizi, the Assistant to the Archdeacon of the Western Ankole Diocese, has witnessed the profound impact of the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) project on both the Church and its community. He is thankful for ECOTRUST’s initiative and recognizes how tree planting has transformed the Church’s land.
Daudi Bangirana, who was the District Health Inspector and Councillor of Bitereko Subcounty in Mitooma District when the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) project began, was introduced to the idea of a carbon project. He learned that the project encouraged group participation, especially with women. Working with Beatrice Ahimbisibwe, the Chairperson of the Bitereko Subcounty women’s group, they wrote a proposal for the group’s involvement in the project.
In a vibrant encounter on September 16th, 2023, ECOTRUST met with NNTG, witnessing their transformative vision for Rubirizi district. From education to beekeeping, NNTG’s aspirations marked a path toward progress. Praised by ECOTRUST’s Executive Director, this meeting showcased the impactful synergy between community empowerment and sustainable change.
In the heart of the Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve in Rubirizi district, a remarkable transformation unfolds—a story of collaboration, resilience, and conservation. The Ndangara and Nyakiyanja Parishes Tutungukye group (NNTG), guided by ECOTRUST, has turned a history of conflict into a model of sustainable growth. Through reforestation, beekeeping, and partnerships with organizations like ECOTRUST, the NNTG has not only revitalized the forest but also elevated the standards of living for the Ndangara community.
