Betty Kalema Masamba, a resident of Kichamba village in Bunyaruguru Subcounty, Rubirizi District, has always had a strong connection to nature. Growing up surrounded by trees, she developed a love for the environment from an early age, inspired by her parents who taught her to care for the land. This passion eventually led her to become part of a project that has not only helped her protect the environment but also improved her livelihood.
Nazarius, a 70-year-old farmer from Bunyaruguru Subcounty in Rubirizi District, proudly shares his journey as one of the first farmers to join the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) project. When he started, he was already growing pine trees on part of his land. One day, a team from ECOTRUST came looking for people who were interested in planting indigenous trees through a carbon offset program. The idea caught his attention, and together with a few friends, he decided to give it a try.
Tereza, a resident of Bitereko Subcounty in Mitooma District, began her journey with the Trees for Global Benefits (TGB) project in 2006. Before joining the program, life was difficult, and money was tight. She remembers a time when she had never even held UGX 100,000 in her hands.
